The Eastern Continental Trail
Keys Glades Connector

Photos of Krome (SR997)

This photo album covers landmarks along the ECT Keys-Glades Connector along Krome Avenue. This part of the trail begins in Florida City and continues north to US41. Because there is no blazing of this section of the trail, the images are intended to help you find your way. Nothing very scenic, just visual landmarks and difficult intersections.

Please Note: Because of the resolution of the photos, it can take a few minutes to load.

Florida City/Homestead to US41 (Routes 1 and 2) via SR997 (Krome)

Finding Krome Avenue/SR997/177th Avenue heading northbound can be tricky as this road goes by three different names.

Watch for the signs above indicating where to cross over. SR997 and Krome are the same road. If you see the fancy gateway welcoming you to Florida City, you have gone too far north on US1.

Welcome to Homestead

Florida City quickly transitions into Homestead. Here is the Homestead City Limit heading northbound.

OFF TRAIL: The Homestead Library. South bounders, this is the first convenient opportunity to get to a library near or on the trail after a long period without this service. Its about half a mile east of the trail on US1 just south of 312th Street (Campbell).

Krome Avenue (SR997) brings you through the historic area of Homestead.

Heading North from Homestead

Although there are numerous lodging options in Homestead, the Grove Inn is the only facility on the trail between Homestead and US41. The phone number is right on the sign.

North of Homestead, there are few opportunities to resupply groceries on the trail itself. This is one of the better options. There is only one other small grocery on this trail before reaching the Florida Trail. There are off trail grocery options (full service groceries) east of Krome on 88th street (Approx 1 mile east) and US41 (approx 4 miles east).

Grandma's Garden U-Pick is on the trail and for south bounders this is the first opportunity for ample fresh fruits and vegetables after a long period of junk and packaged foods. The milk shakes are terrific! Fresh fruits and vegetables, some other incidental items and beverages. There are no other food options headed north on the trail until you reach US41.

The intersection of Krome and 88th Street (Kendall) is a very busy one. Be careful crossing Kendall. This was taken from the southeast corner of the intersection. Many accidents happen here.

From Kendall north to US41 there are no public businesses or much of anything else. If I spot something that will make a good visual landmark, I will add it later.
