Maps

Because of the linear nature of the Keys Glades connector, it is very easy to make due with a couple of publicly available maps on the internet:

Keys: Overseas Heritage Trail Map (Warning - 4.25 MB PDF file)
Glades: Everglades Map (Warning - 2.50 MB PDF file)

For the greenway hikers some additional information:
Southern Glades Greenway Information
Everglades Trail Greenway Information

You may also want (but do not necessarily need)
Map of Homestead/Florida City

Spreadsheets

This spreadsheet contains my preliminary mileage estimates for the ECT Keys Glades connector. I will verify the specifics over the next couple of months. This spreadsheet is based on information I like to have when hiking. You may want to pare it down. I think I have all of the libraries, major groceries and post offices noted as well as some visual landmarks to let you know that you are still making progress when there isn't much to look at. I need to find more coin laundries and AYCEs (all you can eat!!!) You can save a copy and do what you want with it!

GPS - To carry or not to carry?

Global Positioning Systems, or GPS are a tool that can be used for many purposes.  I am a huge fan of GPS technology and I do hike with a GPS, even though I aspire to be an "ultralight" hiker.  I think it is important enough to carry the additional weight, but I only turn it on when I need to get my bearings.  Gotta save those batteries!  While the Keys Glades connector is a road walk with few turns, it is also an unblazed trail.  When you are in the middle of nowhere on the side of a road, its nice to see how far you might be from services.

GPS data is not always available or it is available at considerable cost for hiking trails.  Sometimes it is only available in formats that are more complicated than most users are willing to work with.  I am going to provide simple .gpx files:  Trail landmarks, facilities, services and vital off-trail services (full service groceries, post offices and libraries) as well.

What I will not be doing is providing information on how to use a GPS or to work with .gpx files.  There are plenty of websites that can explain these things better than I can.  I personally use EasyGPS freeware which has worked well for me so far.

This section is under construction.  The .gpx files will be coming as soon as I have baseline data for each of the routes.
